Ajax High Temperature
Inert Salt Bath
The High Temperature salt bath is one of
the stations where our heat treat hardening process is performed. This is an
inert salt mixture, meaning it does not impart or take chemicals away from the
steel. The scissors are suspended on rods, dipped into the 1980 degree F salt,
held at that temperature for 4 minutes and then cooled rapidly by immersing in
oil. From there all our scissors are placed in a cryogenic chamber, Ice Tempered
in other words, at -120 degrees F for 24 hours. The Ice Tempering process
imparts added strength to the scissors while increasing it's ductility. This
station (not shown) is much like a home chest type freezer, with the exception
of having better insulation and a two stage compressor to be able drop and
maintain such a low temperature.
How many "Sales Reps" would help you rebuild
their products? Or would they try and sell you another one?
